  • Surface: A flat, even surface is an extremely important requirement, especially for non-stick pans. Because a centrally curved surface including coating can ensure that butter and oil melt down to the lowest point and that even coverage with the fat is virtually impossible. Fried eggs, for example, would also drift towards the edge and would be difficult to turn without additional tools.

  • Longevity: It is inevitable that the pan’s non-stick coating will wear off over time and slowly become inefficient. Even with proper care, the non-stick pan has a shorter lifespan than other pans. To ensure the best possible shelf life, it is best to wash the pan by hand and do not use the dishwasher. In addition, pay attention to the temperature specifications of the manufacturer and do not expose the coating to extreme heat.
  • Price: 20 to 80 euros for cookware is a lot of money, but we still think the price is fair. Manufacturers like Tefal in particular impress with their quality and technology and also offer capable and excellent support. But you simply can’t go wrong with Le Creuset and their guarantee of an incredible 30 years.

Are non-stick pans dishwasher safe?

Many manufacturers state that their non-stick pans are dishwasher-safe, and basically they are, but constant cleaning in the dishwasher has been shown to influence the longevity of the non-stick coating.

So if you don’t want to forego the convenience of the dishwasher, you can use it. But if you want your non-stick pan to do its job effectively for as long as possible, then you’d better use the good old sponge.

Are non-stick pans oven safe?

The best way to find out whether a non-stick pan is suitable for the oven is the manufacturer’s packaging. There it is actually always stated whether a pan (even with a plastic handle) can be put in the hot oven or not. Even the maximum recommended temperature is often given.

However, there is one exception: pans that are made entirely of stainless steel or cast iron can actually always be pushed into the oven without problems (but be careful, hot!).

How can I guarantee the longevity of my non-stick pan?

It’s actually very simple: As already mentioned, it is best to clean your pan by hand and do without the dishwasher. In addition, you do not expose it to extreme heat, which will damage the non-stick coating. So pay attention to the temperature specifications of the manufacturer and do not give maximum power to the hob.

Non-stick pans are specially designed to be used over low to moderate heat. Good coated pans distribute the heat so well that any kind of food can be properly cooked or fried. But if that’s not enough for you and you want to roast your meat with a lot of heat, then we recommend a heat-resistant  cast iron pan .

Oh, and before we forget .. if you have an open flame, make sure that it does not protrude above the bottom of the non-stick pan. Because pans are often coated on the outside and a hot open flame would be extremely damaging.
